China Road and Bridge Corporation, the contractor for the Standard Gauge Railway, has Wednesday launched a photography competition intended to capture aspects of the SGR project between Mombasa and Nairobi and showcase its interface with communities along the corridor.
Under the theme SGR: Discover a New World, the Competition, which is being held for the second time is open to both professional and amateur photographers between the ages of 18 to 50 and carries prize tags of Sh400,000, Sh200,000 and Sh100,000 for the overall winner and the first and second runner-up, respectively.
“CRBC is excited about the second edition of this photography exhibition. It is not only a chance to identify, showcase and celebrate photography talent in Kenya. It gives us an opportunity to tell the remarkable and transformative SGR story, while giving us a platform to engage the Kenyan public and our other key stakeholders.” Said CRBC Manager, Department of External Relations and Cooperation, Stephen Zhao, at the launch:
The 25 photographers already shortlisted for the coveted prize, are expected to take a five-day tour of the corridor between March 20 and 25, during which they are expected to take and submit their works under different, daily themes.
There will also be seven categories, whose winners will bag Sh50, 000 and a certificate of participation each.
In this year’s edition of the competition, there will also be an online gallery for one week, showcasing the works of the 25 photographers, and giving the public a chance to participate through online voting and also to learn important information on both the CRBC and SGR.
The winner of the online voting will bag the People’s Choice Award and will also be fittingly rewarded.
The SGR project, for which CRBC is the EPC (Environmental, Procurement and Construction) contractor, is almost complete and is slated for commissioning by the Kenya Government in June this year.
