Kenyan giants Butali Warriors began the Africa hockey club championship on a losing note after going down 2-0 to tournament Favourites Sharkia of Egypt this evening at the City Park stadium in Nairobi.

In a match that saw two continental giants face off, Sharkia clashed with Butali and as expected, the game begun with pace from the get go.

Butali attacked in the opening minutes of the match and came close to netting twice but 20 minutes into the game, the shoe was on the other foot, as Sharkia took control of proceedings.

And with the waves of attacks at the Butali goal coming one after the other, the Kenyan side eventually gave in as Abd El Rahman put the visitors ahead in the 30th minute to send the match into the break Sharkia leading 1-0.

The Egyptians came into the second half seeking to kill the game early and just five minutes into the second half Ahmed Gamal scored Sharkia’s second goal.

The win sends Sharkia top of pool B ahead of their clashes with Ghana Police and Niger Flickers who also face Butali in the same pool.

In the early matches played Exchequers defeated Weatherhead 6-2 while Ghana Revenue Authority thrashed Wananchi 11-0 in a one sided encounter.
