Convoy ferrying foodstuff for the African Mission in Somalia attacked
One of the civilian truck was blown off by a landmine as the Kenya Defence Forces soldiers escorting the convoy battled the militants between Liboi and Harhar.
Though there were no casualties reported from either side, it took the reinforcement of GSU officers from Harhar to force the insurgents to flee.
Following continued aggression by the AMISOM forces against that Al Shabaab terror gang the insurgents have resorted to ambushes against the forces the most daring attack being the Eladde attack in which they killed an unknown number of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers.
On Friday, the insurgents tried to hit back once again attacking a convoy carrying foodstuff for the AMISOM forces in Dobley.
The convoy which was under the escorted by the Kenya Defense Forces was attacked between Liboi and Harhar.
One of the trucks in the convoy was reportedly badly blown off by a landmine.
The attack prompted a fire exchange between KDF and the militia.
The attack lasted for some time until the General Service Unit officers from Harhar gave reinforcement to the KDF officers prompting the militiamen to take off.
No casualties were reported from either side and the convoy is yet to cross to Dobley.
The incident comes just days after the killing of Kunon Aden the man alleged to have led the Garisa University attack and reports that the militants could be infiltrating the country to carry out similar attacks during the Muslim’s holy month of Ramadhan.
Unconfirmed intelligence reports indicate that the Al Shabaab insurgents could target miltary and police units under the Linda Boni operation where the militants have a hide out.
The counties of the larger Northern Kenya could also be a target as those fleeing from AMISOM aggression are said to have entered Kenya through the porous border with Somalia.
Nairobi could also be a target with the insurgents said to be targeting VIPs
