Stars humbles DRC 2-1 in friendly match

National soccer team Harambee Stars registered their first win in 2017 after beating Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 in a friendly match played Sunday in Machakos.
The team is preparing for the 2019 African Nations Cup in Cameroun and the African Nations Championships which will be held in Nairobi Kenya next year.
After letting a win slip away in the dying minutes of their friendly match against Uganda Cranes on Thursday, Harambee Stars were not ready to repeat that mistake against a star studded DRC and took the lead in the 7th minute through Michael Olunga.
The two sides could not find the net in the first period but 15 minutes into the second half Gael Kakuta leveled the score at the Machakos stadium.
Eleven minutes after DRC’s goal, Michael Olunga struck again to hand the Stars a first win in 2017 and at the same time stretching coach Stanley Okumbi’s unbeaten run to nine matches. Meanwhile two Sportpesa Premier League matches were also on card Sunday.
Kakamega Homeboys defeated Muhoroni Youth 1-0 while Western Stima lost 3-1 to Sofapaka.
