Prime suspect arrested over killing of British rancher Tristan Voorspuy

Police have arrested a prime suspect in last week’s murder of British rancher Tristan Voorspuy in Laikipia County.

Reports indicate that the suspect was arrested on Sunday and would be arraigned in court today (Monday).

A Senior Police officer who preferred anonymity said they would be seeking more time to conclude investigations on the suspect’s involvement in the murder as they hunt for two others believed to have worked with him.

Voorspuy, a British citizen born in South Africa was shot dead on March 6th as he inspected damage caused by illegal grazers on his Sosian ranch in the expansive region.

More than 300 suspects were arrested and charged last week over the invasions and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said police officers deployed there are under instructions to drive out all the illegal grazers from private farms.

Elsewhere, Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating an incident where a primary school teacher was raped and subsequently killed living Karinga villagers in shock.

The body of the teacher Jane Wanjiru aged 45 years was discovered in a bathroom by a relative.

The Githure Primary School head teacher is said to have been attacked by an assailant who raped and killed her using what witnesses said was a hammer.

The husband to the deceased Samson Marenga who was not at home when the incident happened fainted upon witnessing his wife lying unconscious. She died later at Tenri Hospital in Embu where she was rushed by neighbors.

Reports say a neighboring house was also attacked by the assailant who allegedly raped a 70 year old woman and fled. Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi has condemned the heinous killing adding that his county has lost a dedicated teacher.  

Meanwhile County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge is leading investigations into the murder.
