Cruise ship docks at Mombasa port with tourists
By KBC Reporter
The port of Mombasa has Monday welcomed a cruise ship ‘Silver Cloud’ with 299 passengers and 212 crew members on board.
The luxury MS Silver cloud with mostly European tourists set sail to Zanzibar on Sunday and head for Seychelles on Tuesday next week.
It is the second cruise vessel to dock at the port of Mombasa this year after the arrival of MS Nautica in January with 1049 tourists.
The tourists on a two day voyage were met at the Kilindini harbour by officials from the Kenya Tourism Board and Kenya Ports Authority.
KTB Product Manager Fred Okeyo said the visitors will be taken around tourist hotspots in Mombasa and Kwale counties.
He said the arrival of quality cruise ships with high spending international tourists in Mombasa is an indication that Kenya is slowly becoming a cruise destination of choice.
Okeyo says KTB is increasing efforts to promote more cruise ship tourism in the country as a way to boost and diversify the economy.
