Senegal riding high after Tunisia victory

Senegal took control of Group B in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tunisia as the competition entered its second day last night.

Algeria settled for a all two draw with  Zimbabwe in an earlier encounter.The matches were played at Stade de Franceville.

Senegal the ’Teranga Lions’  claimed top spot early on thanks to a victory secured by first-half goals from Sadio Mane and Kara Mbodj.Tunisia had the first chance of the match when striker Ahmed Akaichi glanced a header just wide of the target from a set piece inside the opening five minutes.

After 10 minutes they succumbed to a penalty, the spot kick was earned by Cheikhou Kouyate, who was brought down in the box by Aymen Abdennour.

Mane coolly converted the penalty to put his side into the lead.Tunisia continued to enjoy much of the ball possesion, but on the half hour mark they went two goals down after Kara Mbodj’s towering header into the bottom corner to make it 2 goals for Senegal.

In an earlier game between Algeria and Zimbabwe, Riyadh mahrez netted a brace as both teams settled for a 2-2 draw. Mahrez had given Algeria the lead before Kuda Mahachi scored a penalty to equalize for Zimbabwe.

However, Zimbabwe doubled their lead through Nyasha Mushweki but Mahrez grabbed his second of the night to make it 2-2. Meanwhile,two matches are on card tonight where Ivory Coast will lock horns with Togo while Democratic Republic of Congo clashes with Morocco.
