CORD claims Senate vote on electoral laws was rigged

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy-CORD now claims that the Thursday night vote at the Senate was rigged.

The opposition now says it will convene a meeting with all its aspirants at Bomas of Kenya on January 11 to chart the way forward on the issue.

Speaking in Nairobi CORD Principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Bungoma County Senator Moses Wetangula claimed that the bill was doomed to fail as the critical vote in the contentious bill was only one.

Senator Wetangula accused Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro of working with Jubilee to rig the election.

The Bungoma Senator said they will invalidate the Senate vote to redress the situation.  He further said they will seek other legal means of restoring sanity in the electoral process.

CORD Co-Principal Kalonzo Musyoka said the opposition will explore all available legal means to ensure the President does not sign the bill into law.

The government side won the crucial vote by 26 to 10 in the final vote taken past midnight Thursday passing the contentious amendments to the Elections Act.
