DP Ruto defends election laws amendments

With the 2017 elections promising to be a bruising battle pitting the ruling Jubilee administration and the opposition CORD expected to transform into National Super Alliance NASA, political players are leaving nothing to chance as they consolidate support for their bids.

Deputy President William Ruto has defended the recent amendments to the Election Laws Act 2016 by the National Assembly which allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission to establish a manual backup in case the electronic transmission fails.

Ruto spoke as he hosted leaders from Trans Nzoia County at his Sugoi home, dismissing the push by certain political camps to postpone the August elections to allow for more time to sort out the election reforms.

Meanwhile, Nominated Senator Martha Wangari has lauded the recent nomination of seven individuals to the IEBC by President Uhuru Kenyatta as an effort to unite the country.

Senator Wangari accused the opposition of driving a negative agenda in its criticism of the appointment of the Wafula Chebukati led team.
