African Hockey Club championship slated for 7th Jan in Nairobi

The 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Club hockey Championships gets underway this Saturday at the City Park here in Nairobi.
19 teams among them 10 women’s club will take part in the continental competition that will start this Saturday and ends on 15th of this month.
Sharkia clubs from Egypt are the first teams to arrive in the country and held a light training session last evening at the City Park grounds.
The Africa Hockey Federation awarded the hosting rights to Kenya after the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe pulled out of hosting the event due to financial constraints.
Kenya, who staged the prestigious competition in 2007 and 2009, will be represented by four teams including the 2015 KHU men’s champions Butali Sugar Warriors, Kenya Police, Orange Telkom, and Sliders.
Telkom Orange and Eastern Company from Egypt won the women’s and men’s titles respectively in the last edition in Lusaka, Zambia.
