Baringo county officials refute ghost worker revelations in audit report

Baringo County government has defended itself against the report by auditor general Edward Ouko that it has allocated over Ksh 272 million to ghost workers.
A report by auditor general Edward Ouko indicated that Baringo county paid individuals not captured in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Database (IPPD) system in 2014-2015 financial year.
Richard Koech, Chief Officer of Finance in Baringo County, termed the report as miscalculated and oblivious of Baringo’s accountancy processes.
The payment is said to include over Kshs 17 million that went to economic stimulus program, Ksh 23.5 million to contracted employees and Kshs 150.8million as payment of nursery school teachers among others.
It remains to be seen what action shall be taken.
The report revealed glaring irregularities in the expenditure of various counties across Kenya.
In the re[ports, it emerges that Governors have supervised the possible loss of billions of shillings of taxpayer money in unverified spending, ghost projects, irregular payments and improper procurement.
