Kiptum appointed new IRA CEO

Godfrey Kiptum has been IRA’s Chief Manager for Human Capital Development and Administration.

Godfrey Kiptum has been appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) and Acting Commissioner of Insurance.

Kiptum replaces the long serving Commissioner of Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of Sammy Makove, who is proceeding on terminal leave pending the expiry of his contract.

Makove is the 1st CEO of IRA and has served two terms, each made up of 4 years. Prior to the establishment of IRA, Makove was the Commissioner of Insurance at the then Department of Insurance in the Ministry of Finance.

IRA Board Chairman Hon. Abdirahim H. Abdi made the announcement during a staff briefing session and thanked Makove for his diligent service to the insurance industry.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Mr. Makove for his service to IRA and the insurance industry.Through his leadership, we have witnessed growth and development in the industry and we wish him well as he moves on pursue other interests”, he said.

Until his appointment as Acting CEO, Kiptum has been IRA’s Chief Manager for Human Capital Development and Administration and has worked at IRA for the last 8 years.

He brings in a wealth of experience having worked in various State Agencies over the last 20 years.

Kiptum holds an MBA from ESAMI/Maastricht MSM University is an Associate of the Life Management Institute of USA (ALMI).

He is also a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of UK.
