Innovation Hub ‘SwahiliPot’ to be set up in Mombasa

The Ministry of ICT has initiated the setting up of an Innovation Hub in Mombasa County aimed at availing space and equipping young people to develop innovative ICT products.
The hub dubbed SwahiliPot is expected to foster youth entrepreneurship through critical thinking and engagement in creative possibilities in business.
Kenya has been on a path to centre development and economic growth on Information Communication Technology through development of various digital programmes that promote innovation.
Nairobi has been centre for ICT, hosting various innovation hubs that provide an opportunity for the youth to share and develop ideas.
So far, there have been significant membership at the hub since April 2016 with various startups having undergone incubation.
The youth in Mombasa are expected to leverage on the SwahiliPot hub to enhance their business. Stakeholders reckon that Mombasa County which has been a landing site for four undersea fibre optic cables namely SEACOM, TEAMS and EASSY, is poised to be a centre for ICT if the relevant investments are put in place.
