KANU’s Nick Salat in trouble over links with CORD

KANU plans to summon its National Secretary General, Nick Salat, over his open association with CORD in the push for reforms at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission-IEBC.

West Pokot Senator, Prof. John Lonyang’apuo, while speaking during KBC’s Radio Taifa Thursday morning Talk Show accused his party Secretary General of allegedly associating with the activities of a coalition that has chosen to use street protests to remove the IEBC commissioners.

Salat also attended a rally organised by the opposition at Uhuru Park for the parallel Madaraka Day Ceremony.

Lonyang’apuo said the fact that Salat was the only KANU official who was at Uhuru Park during the parallel Madaraka Day rally organized by CORD is enough evidence that the Secretary General attended the rally in his personal capacity and not on behalf of the party.

“KANU stands for peace. We don’t believe in confrontational Politics at all. We  in KANU want IEBC reformed before 2017 elections but  we are not in agreement with some of the techniques being applied by the official opposition CORD,” said Lonyang’apuo.

He said CORD should not have organized a parallel rally in Nairobi while the President was presiding over the first Madaraka Day celebrations outside Nairobi.

The Senator’s criticism of his party boss comes a week after Nominated Senator, Zipporah Kittony, made a similar criticism after Salat participated in anti-IEBC protests where CORD leaders led by Raila Odinga led protesters to IEBC headquarters but were dispersed by heavily armed anti riot police using tear gas.

Salat has come out to defend his association with CORD saying that the party backed Cord’s resolve to send the commissioners packing “as Kenyans had lost confidence in them”.

KANU has in the past claimed that the Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP)employed a sophisticated technology to allegedly rig the Kericho senatorial by election.

The party claimed that it had lost faith in the electoral body claiming that it colluded with JAP by use of a computer program to engineer results favoring JAP candidate.
