Isiolo International Airport is set to begin operations next month.

This according to the Kenya Airports Authority Managing Director Yatich Kangugo who says the facility that is meant to open up the region is ready for use.

The upgrade of Isiolo airstrip into an international airport has been behind schedule.

The project was slated to begin operations last year but conflicting interests between residents of Meru and Isiolo counties have delayed completion of the facility.

Completion of the project is good news for Isiolo and Meru residents as well as businessmen and tourists who will have the privilege to travel faster by air.

The has been constructed in three phases at a cost of 2.7 billion shillings.

Those affected by flight path are expected to be resettled once the Kenya Airports Authority finalizes its arrangements with the National Land Commission.

Residents were urged to take advantage of the airport to engage in business, since they will be able to transport perishable products such as miraa, meat and horticultural produce to international markets

He also noted that the opening of the Isiolo abattoir is also likely to be a game changer for pastoralists to sell their animals for slaughter, after which meat products can be exported via the Airport.
