Political parties have until midnight to submit candidates’ names to IEBC

Political parties will have until midnight today (Monday) to prepare to submit the lists of all their aspirants to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for vetting.
Starting yesterday (Sunday), political parties are vetting and submitting to IEBC the names of candidates to participate in next month’s nomination.
IEBC has ruled out any extension of the submission deadline and instead has asked the more than 67 political parties to stick to the strict electoral timelines of the submissions.
The multi-agency process which will be conducted until April 5th will be seeking to determine whether or not those seeking public offices have complied with all the rules, among them chapter six of the constitution that touches on integrity.
The electoral body has ruled out the prospects of extending the deadline, despite a pending court case by the Council of Governors challenging the legality of a law barring party hopping.
IEBC maintains it will go ahead with the vetting process even as it awaits the verdict by the High Court on the matter this Wednesday.
