Raila questions tender award for Kipevu terminal

Cord opposition leader Raila Odinga is now questing how a Dubai Port was awarded tender to manage the Kipevu Oil terminal at the Mombasa port.
Raila claims a loan granted to Kenya by the United Arab Emirates to a tune of 28 billion shillings was meant to induce the country to grant Dubai Port contract to manage the terminal yet it had failed to win the tender.
According to Raila the loan was a mechanism derived to influence the awarding of the tender to the Dubai port which he claimed failed to win the tender competitively and was defeated by 12 other port operator from the globe including Netherlands, China and Singapore.
He wants Treasury to explain to Kenyans why it sought the loan and its method of re-payment is also seeking to know why the government opted to seek the concessional loan from UAE and not the World Bank.
Raila who spoke hours before the ODM, Tononoka rally claims the contract smells corruption and the county has a right to know.
But Jubilee supporter in Mombasa see the latest corruption allegation claims by the ODM leader as a camping to defend embattled Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who has been on the spot lately.
