44 entries received for 2017 CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance

44 competitors have signed up for the 2017 CBA Concours d’Elegance.
The current entry list has 23 cars and 21 motorcycles of which 12 are from Uganda Bikers Association.
This year’s Concours will be the sixth sponsored by the Commercial Bank of Africa and the 47th organized by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club.
The event by Kenya Motor Sport Federation (KMSF) will be held on September 24th in Nairobi Racecourse.
While delivering the keynote speech before the showing of the Concours TV programme, Chris Pasha, the Group Head of Marketing of CBA, said, “The Concours mirrors our aim of enhancing the lifestyle of our customers through a high level of service and the provision of products which exceed their expectations. When they gather at the Nairobi Racecourse we have an ideal opportunity to showcase our offerings for individuals and SME and large scale organisations.”
“Our enthusiasm for the Africa Concours led to the sponsorship of the Uganda Vintage and Classic Auto Show which is the equivalent event in Kampala. The 2017 edition will be held on Saturday July 29th in the grounds of the Sheraton Hotel and offers the opportunity for Kenyan enthusiasts to make additional use of their vintage and classic cars.”
One of the eye-catching cars due to appear at the Nairobi Racecourse is the 1969 Alfa Romeo Spider sports model of Alec Davis. This iconic two seater won the Concours in 1997 when the car was owned by ClaudioTosoni. The cars which will be driven along the judging line range in size from Austin Minis to the large 1991 Mercedes Benz of Dr. Joseph A. Alouch.
Among the older motorcycles which are likely to win prizes are the 1952 Ducati 65T of Russell Hughes who is based in Gilgil and a 1957 BSA which is being prepared by Stephen Tabaruka, a Ugandan classic enthusiast. Another two wheeler which will be worth watching is the 1960 BSA B33 of nineteen year old Andre Antoine who was third overall last year and won the class for street motorcycles from 351 cc. to 650 cc.
By organizing the Concours the Alfa Romeo Owners Club aims to reward the owners of well-kept cars and motorcycles with the opportunity to win prizes in the 12 car and seven motorcycle classes and to have their machines assessed by experienced judges.
The judging process for cars starts on the Total inspection ramp where officials check the underside.
Next competitors drive along the judging line infront of the main grandstand stopping for inspections of the exterior, interior and boot, engine and road safety. Motorcycles are marked in a similar way in the Racecourse parade ring.
