President Kenyatta hosts NHIF beneficiary “Balozi” at State House

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday at State House, Nairobi, met Mr Caleb “Balozi” Omino, one of the beneficiaries of the Jubilee Government’s pledge to increase access to affordable healthcare.

Balozi, a farmer in Kisumu County living with disability, is among the many Kenyans who became a member of the National Hospital Insurance Fund through a government sponsored programme.

In 2014, his daughter, Esther, fell ill and was admitted to hospital with typhoid a few weeks before she was to sit her KCPE.

Thanks to the support of NHIF, Esther, who is now in Form 2, received treatment to make a full recovery and was able to successfully complete her exams.

Balozi was invited to attend yesterday’s Joint Sitting of Parliament when President Kenyatta delivered his State of the Nation Address.

The President hosted Balozi at State House, Nairobi, where he expressed his gratitude for the implementation of the Government’s policy to expand access to affordable healthcare for Kenyans.

The number of Kenyans with access to outpatient medical care through the NHIF rose from 3.8 million in 2013 to 5.8 million in 2017.

Closer home in Nyanza where Balozi comes from, the residents of Rusinga Island in Homa Bay County have another reason to celebrate with the construction of a new bridge linking their island to Mbita.

Besides improving the ease of transportation, the bridge greatly improves transport safety in the area.
