Public universities in paralysis as lecturers strike begins

By Vitalis Nyagol

Learning in public universities has been paralyzed after lecturers made true their threats to down tools over the implementation of the pending 2013 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Also taking part in the strike are members of university staff.

Justice Hellen Wasillwa of the Labour Relations Court had earlier issued a court order barring the commencement of the strike to give dialogue a chance.

But the National Chairman of the University Academic Staff Union Prof. Sammy Kubasu while announcing the strike this morning faulted the government for allegedly ignoring their grievances, by failing to implement the 2013 CBA.

The lecturer’s who complained of underpayment vowed they will not return to work until their demands are fully met.
