JKIA runway temporary closed after aircraft crash-lands

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport runway was Sunday evening temporarily closed after an aircraft from Somalia made an emergency landing.

Kenya Airports Authority in a statement on twitter said the plane that had four people on board landed on its belly and veered off the runway.

The passengers survived the 4.45 pm mishap .

“It had 4 souls on board. No casualties reported. As a result the runway is temporarily closed to evacuate aircraft” confirmed KAA.

Several passengers have been stranded as a number of flights have been diverted to other destinations.

“We would like to advise all JKIA users that we have moved all intl. arrival functions from the parking garage” added KAA.

The cause the crash is not yet known.
