Joho, Kingi’s security detail reinstated

Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi security details have been reinstated.

No statement was given in the reinstatement but changes were made in the new positing after claims that the two had more than 15 officers attached to them.

The officers were withdrawn over the weekend in what the opposition claimed was aimed at intimidating the two county bosses due to their open attack on the government.

The withdrawal of their security detail last Friday is said to have originated from police headquarters directing officers and vehicles to desist from escorting and clearing roads for county government officers.

The memo said to have been signed by the Senior Assistant Inspector-General of Police King’ori Mwangi had called for the re-organization of the force and ordered the security details of governors Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi to report to their stations.

But Mombasa senator Hassan Omar is protesting the unprecedented security attached to Joho.

Omar wants an audit of the number of firearms licensed to private citizens claiming the town is awash with ammunition which pose a threat to peace during the election year.

Omar claims the excess security detail for the county bosses was unnecessary and should be scaled down.
